Plane watching at Maho Beach – St. Maarten

This is one of the craziest things i ever done – standing below an airplane about to land some 20 m above me – hanging for dear life on a fence while a plane is taking revving the engines full throttle some 30 m away from me – wow wow – here are some images to share – These are from Day1 at Maho beach – Day 2 will have the 747 Monster planes flying overhead.

We had our hotel about 4 min walk from the beach, and our second home was the semi-permanent beach bar on the West side of the beach – nice palapas to keep the sun away from the white fair toned Calgary wedding photographer,  Ceribe Beer for $2, great pizza and most of all superb view of the beach, road and runway just mere yards away.

The craziest sight though were people getting blown away into the ocean and off the beach by the jet blast of a 747 or the twin engines of a Caribbean Jet. I must say that hanging on that fence and getting blasted by the jeb blast, heat and jet exhaust was the most thrilling thing I ever done – on top of that I got the royal Caribbean treatment as the guys who were there with me – were waving and flagging he co-pilot down to come super close to the fence – the co-pilot stuck his head out of the window and waved back – and sure enough they came some 20m away from the fence – just to give us the full Monty – I really thought I would let go at one point……..
