1970 Karmann Ghia

The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia has beel always my dream car – well honestly it would be Porsche 356  but for now Karmann Ghia gets me as close it gets, within a reasonable budget. A James Bond look and feel, silver color makes it classy and the history of VW that was started by Ferdinand Porsche makes it that much better – its truly a intertwined history of these cars – based on the Czechoslovakian TATRA design, Porsche’s VW KfD vision and manufacturing by Karmann with Italian Ghia design – this is a true hand crafted/build master piece. The curves and sleek design – only the 50 HP Beetle 1600cc engine does not take advantage of the aerodynamic design. This 1970 Ghia was a California car when a Grandpa gifted to his grand son who fixed it up, sprayed it silver and gave an amazing red interior. A Calgary Porsche dealership manager bought it and brought it to Calgary and after some years traded it in to a VW dealership for a different car. The South Centre VW was going to keep it as a show piece but needed some space in the show room and put it up for sale and that’s when I got it. With the blessing of my wife Nancy i got it but not before she asked them to put a huge bow on it and “get” it for me as a birth day present and by which taking in the online prize as “best wife of the year”! which I congratulate her on it.

well enjoy the pics from yesterday – Crisp Calgary fall with yellow larch trees as backdrop
